“B Side or flip side.  My flip side to Christchurch is Lyttelton.  I live looking down at the port.
In this exhibition, my intention was to combine my love of the abstract vessel and the vessels that are right in front of my eyes.  During all the earthquakes the boats remained unscathed; it was a relief to have something that remained the same.  Boats possess a sense of freedom in movement, colour and given name that not even cars seem to share.   I hope the works are something of an antidote to the gloom of newspapers and the city re-build.

The titles for these one-off works were sourced from the names of Lyttelton boats”.   Cheryl Lucas, May 2015
