“I make to covey thoughts that I don’t have, words, sentences or paragraphs for. My practice is an intuitive based one, ideas generally generate upon themselves, whether that be with materials or concepts, these jewellery works can evolve from a traditional or contemporary jewellery arts perspective”.
Green Eggs with Spam is Moniek’s first solo exhibition at The National.
Moniek completed a Bachelor Degree of Applied Arts and Post-Graduate Diploma in jewellery and print making at Whitireia New Zealand Faculty of Arts, Wellington. Moniek was the recipient of the 2012 Fingers Whitireia award as well as the 2013 artist in residence at Toi Poneke in Wellington. Her work was selected for Wunderruma, a touring exhibition of contemporary jewellery curated by Karl Fritsch and Warwick Freeman in 2014 and she was the only New Zealand exhibitor at the 2013 Marzee Selection of Graduate Work Jewellery Exhibition, an international contemporary jewellery exhibition in the Netherlands.
