Emma Fitts’ practice spans painting, photography and sculpture. Recurrent themes in her works include queer art histories, Modernist textiles and architectures, and the idea of biography, with a particular emphasis on emotion and affect. Fitts studied at the University of Canterbury, Ōtautahi (2022), and completed an MFA at Glasgow School of Art, Scotland (2010).
Fitts returned to Ōtautahi from the UK in 2014 as the Olivia Spencer Bower recipient, was a McCahon House resident for winter 2018, and completed the Fulbright-Wallace residency at The Headlands Center for the Arts, San Francisco, in 2019. She has an extensive exhibition history, including solo and group exhibitions, in New Zealand and internationally. Her work is in the public collections of Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū, The Dowse Art Museum, the University of Canterbury Art Collection, and the Chartwell Collection at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. Fitts lives and works in Ōtautahi Christchurch.
Andrea du Chatenier is a sculptor turned ceramicist. She holds a BFA from Auckland University and a Masters of Fine Arts from RMIT, Melbourne. She is a respected educator who has had a career as a lecturer in art and design in Tāmaki Makaurau and Whanganui. She has received numerous awards including residency opportunities at the Vermont Studio Center, USA, and Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Centre, Denmark. In 2022 she was awarded Dame Doreen’s Gift by the Blumhardt Foundation.
Works by du Chatenier are held in public and private collections including those of The Dowse Art Museum, Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Centre, Denmark, Quartz Museum of Studio Ceramics Whanganui, Te Manawa Museum Palmerston North, Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery Whanganui, and Waikato Museum. Andrea du Chatenier lives and works in Whanganui.
